Please join me Sunday evening from 8-9 p.m. ET for NoQuarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle. The developments in the markets, economy, global finance, Wall Street, and Washington are occurring at breakneck speed.
I will try to slow things down a bit and provide a sense of perspective. What did we learn in the markets over the last week and what does that mean for the weeks and months ahead? We will address a wide range of issues, including: Hank Paulson blindsiding Ken Lewis, 1st quarter earnings (their transparency and quality), market performance this week, month, and year to date, the outlook for our financial regulatory structure, and upcoming bank stress test results.
These are truly historic times in the global economy. Let’s “navigate the economic landscape” without the pandering or nonsense found elsewhere! What is on your mind? What would you like to address? Please share your questions and thoughts by calling in to (347) 677-0792, and also join our live chat room, which I’ll start up about 10 minutes before the show begins.
Many thanks to Larry Johnson and the rest of the team at NoQuarterUSA blog for providing such a vibrant vehicle as NoQuarter Radio. I look forward to having you join me Sunday evening as we collectively navigate the economic landscape!!

Navigating Sense on Cents

As many people travel this weekend to be with friends and family, I would like to take an opportunity to navigate the highways and byways of links and material connected to Sense on Cents.
I hope this post will open more eyes and ears to wider avenues of information as we collectively try to make sense of the economy, markets, and world of global finance.
If I could beg your indulgence, if any of these links do not interest you but you feel they may help others, please pass them along. I thank you in advance.
With no further adieu, let’s travel around Sense on Cents . . .

In 30 Minutes, Join NoQuarter Radio’s “Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle”
Posted by Larry Doyle on April 5th, 2009 7:30 PM |
Join me from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. ET on NoQuarter Radio for Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle. These are truly historic times in the global economy. Let’s “navigate the economic landscape” without the pandering or nonsense found elsewhere! With the stock market near 12 year lows, what is driving the flows? What is truly going on in the economy? Where are markets headed? What came out of the G-20? What is happening in Washington and how is that impacting Wall Street? So much to cover.
Tonight I will be speaking with Phil Trupp, a journalist/author with more than 30 years of professional experience writing for several prestigious newspapers and magazines in the world. Over the years, his investigative reporting and columns have led to congressional hearings on coal mine safety, corruption in the trucking industry, poverty in America, environmental hazards, and global warming, among other controversial issues. Trupp’s financial journalism background includes a seven-year stint as Washington correspondent and assistant bureau chief for Fairchild Publications, and as a reporter at the Washington Evening Star.
Phil Trupp is currently writing MONEY ON ICE: How Ordinary Investors Beat the Biggest Fraud in Wall Street History. It is an exposure of the Auction Rate Securities scandal in which 146,000 investors have been bilked out of $336 billion.
The developments in the markets, economy, global finance, Wall Street, and Washington are occurring at breakneck speed. I will try to slow things down a bit and provide a sense of perspective. What did we learn in the markets over the last week and month and what do they mean for the weeks and months ahead? What is happening overseas and how does that impact us here at home? What is happening in the municipal sector and how will that impact the markets and our personal finances?

Please join us this evening from 8-9 p.m. ET for No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle. With the stock market near 12 year lows, what is driving
the flows? What is truly going on in the economy? Where are markets headed? Given the Washington political circus, how will new legislation impact the future of Wall Street? So much to cover.
Additionally, I will talk with Chuck Doyle of Business Capital in San Francisco. Chuck is one of the leading professionals in the field of debt restructuring and recapitalization, and he has been highlighted regularly in major media outlets including The Wall Street Journal and CNN. In the midst of our current economic turmoil, this conversation will be both timely and enlightening.

What’s Driving the Market Lower Today?
Posted by Larry Doyle on March 2nd, 2009 9:50 AM |
Stock markets are expected to open lower by another 1.5% on the open this morning. What’s driving them lower….again?
1. News that AIG reported an actual 4th quarter 2008 loss of $61 billion. The government will inject ANOTHER $30 billion into this black hole. WHY? Very simply because AIG is the largest holder of CDS (credit default swaps) that serve as insurance for a number of banks and money managers. These CDS cover a wide array of assets but primarily the sub-prime mortgage space. Kevin Doyle of 12th Street Capital, and a guest here on my weekly No Quarter Radio program back in early January, shares that the index that tracks the sub-prime market is at its lows. No surprise there.
While the various media outlets are highlighting this story now, I wrote extensively about AIG and How Does One Lose $125 Billion? on February 24th. I not only wrote about the losses, but also delved into the culture that developed over the years at AIG under Hank Greenberg. Not a pretty picture and seemingly not a lot of integrity in that company. Now we pay. (more…)
The Case for Sense on Cents
Posted by Larry Doyle on February 27th, 2009 10:24 PM |
Welcome to Sense on Cents!!
Why am I so enthused about the potential for this site? I could write at length in answering that question, but in short I firmly believe the “product” delivered here is in very strong demand and very short supply. Collectively as we navigate the economic landscape we will learn, share, and become more comfortable with the economy, the markets, and global finance. While the economy dominates our news currently, where can one go to make sense of it? Welcome to Sense on Cents!
Sense on Cents is truly a reflection of my professional instincts and personal interests. I sincerely believe this site can elevate the level of financial literacy, economic knowledge, and market insights for those who come here. Additionally, I am pleased to provide a wealth of information on career planning, global perspectives, financial primers, and meaningful literature. The sharing of opinions and active dialogue are strongly encouraged. I hope you feel comfortable coming here, find it to be of great value, will offer your perspectives, and will spread the word! While making “sense on cents,” I feel strongly we will find the relationships and returns to be very rewarding, especially relative to the risks!
I thank Larry Johnson for his tremendous support from my very first day at No Quarter and look forward to a continuing, close working relationship with him, Susan, and all involved at NQ. I sincerely hope and believe our efforts can and will promote our mutual interests.
