American Mandate: Congressional Reform Act of 2011

Posted by Larry Doyle on January 7th, 2011 6:03 PM |

The outline highlighted below needs no real preamble. The fact is this draft should be an American Mandate as it represents the ultimate ‘sense on cents.’ The time is long past due for some accountability in Washington. This mandate is the right start.

Much like the reflection of Capitol Hill in the photo to the right, the members of Congress may want to reflect upon just how elitist the entire body has become. Who in Congress has the balls and the backbone to propose this Reform Act? I am calling out each and every Republican and Democrat alike. Who’s in?? You call yourselves Americans? Let’s see it.

I thank the friend who passed this along and I would encourage others to spread this American Mandate!!

Paul Ryan (R-WI) Addresses ‘Fiscal Train Wreck’

Posted by Larry Doyle on January 7th, 2011 9:15 AM |

Upon further review and with a little prompting from some regular readers, I am correcting an oversight and am pleased to now induct Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) into the Sense on Cents Hall of Fame. He clearly deserves it.

Why induct Ryan now? Well, listen for yourself as Mr. Ryan provides a healthy dose of Midwestern values along with a man-sized portion of ‘sense on cents.’

Sowing the Seeds of Tyranny

Posted by Larry Doyle on January 6th, 2011 6:30 AM |

Without truth, can we ever determine right from wrong and good from bad?

Without transparency, can we ever get to the truth?

Without integrity, can those with ill gotten gains ever be prosecuted?

Without an undying and unbridled passion for truth, transparency, and integrity how can our nation thrive? I am deadly serious. We are nowhere close to thriving currently. Read the rest »

The Federal Reserve’s Political Gamesmanship

Posted by Larry Doyle on January 5th, 2011 6:36 AM |

Is the Federal Reserve independent?

I know, I know, ask a silly question, expect a silly answer, right?

Although the Federal Reserve would continue to pretend it is an independent entity, the fact is it has become another political wing of the federal government. If you did not think so, let’s juxtapose recent comments by Fed officials to real developments within the bond market. How so? Let’s navigate as Bloomberg reports, Fed Officials Said Recovery Insufficient to Alter QE2,…… Read the rest »

Whom Should Darrel Issa Investigate?

Posted by Larry Doyle on January 4th, 2011 6:47 AM |

Darrell Issa, Republican Congressman from California, will be the new chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Early indications are that he will pursue investigations of Wikileaks, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, perhaps the Food and Drug Administration, and the failures and ineptitude of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission.

Is there any doubt that Issa and his committee could work around the clock pursuing a wide array of investigations? I have no doubt. The question begs, though, will Issa specifically lead this committee in an overly partisan fashion as it has operated in the past? Will Issa pursue investigations without generating real truth, transparency, and integrity? Will he unearth the ‘smoking guns’? Will he ask the hard questions and demand the real answers? Betrayed by Their Government

Posted by Larry Doyle on January 3rd, 2011 6:39 AM |

What is the single greatest issue facing our nation today?

Is there any doubt that the last two plus years have been some of the most challenging in our nation’s history? Who is to say where we may be currently without the massive federal support of our markets and our economy? That said, what will be the long term costs of that aforementioned support? At the state level, many years–if not decades–of financial malfeasance have left future generations with bills of almost incomprehensible size.

While the size of the fiscal deficits at both the federal and state levels are astronomical, in my opinion, they are not the greatest problem facing our nation at this point. What is the greatest problem we face? Read the rest »

Sense on Cents Halls of Fame and Shame: 2010 Inductees

Posted by Larry Doyle on December 30th, 2010 10:44 AM |

With 2010 now close to being in the rear view mirror, I am compelled to provide my accolades and derision to those who did or did not embrace Sense on Cents’ perpetual pursuit of truth, transparency, and integrity. My lists are certainly far from complete. I welcome and encourage an open, healthy debate with these selections. The numbering of my picks is based on the calendar–that is, when I referenced these individuals/institutions during the course of the year– more than on any degree of fame or shame.

I put forth the following names with enthusiasm. I would ask you to comment liberally. Do you agree, disagree, or have names you would add? Who deserves even further recognition in terms of gold, silver, and bronze medals? With no further adieu . . .

How Do We Get Our Economy Moving Again?

Posted by Larry Doyle on December 29th, 2010 8:44 AM |

Is there any doubt that our economy remains under severe duress or, as I have often maintained, is dealing with a serious bout of ‘walking pneumonia’? Are we supposed to merely wait this thing out? Is there little that can be done to resuscitate ‘our patient’? While there is little difficulty in identifying our economic malady, what is the cure? What mix of ‘economic medications’ may bring some life back to our national pulse?

Are we completely beholden to partisan posturing in Washington and debt strangulation in our state capitols?

What do you think should be done to get our economy moving again?

I received a recent communication from an avid supporter of Sense on Cents who shared the following: Read the rest »

Connecting the Dots: The US Attorney, the SEC, Art Samberg, Pequot Capital, Hush Money, Lying, and More

Posted by Larry Doyle on December 27th, 2010 12:22 PM |

This commentary and attached story are a little lengthy but very important. I hope you will take the time to read, review, and share. LD

Is it possible that our nation can experience a historic demise in our economy and markets with little if any criminal activity involved in that process? Was our economic and market meltdown largely ‘a perfect storm’?

I do not buy those who would put forth that line of reasoning. Nor do I think should you.

Does it defy logic to think that our nation has been hit with trillions of dollars in losses and untold economic pain but only a relative handful of individuals were involved in criminal behaviors connected to this turmoil? Yes, that does defy logic.

Where are the criminal prosecutions? Read the rest »

The True Spirit of Christmas, 2010

Posted by Larry Doyle on December 25th, 2010 8:08 AM |

I firmly believe the greatest gift of all is the ‘giving of oneself.’ In giving, the donor receives so much in return: the beauty and grace of seeing a smile on the recipient’s face; the warmth of knowing that somebody has benefited from your generosity; the satisfaction that the world is a little better place from your giving.

I hope you are able to enjoy the beauty of this day with your loved ones. While many of us are truly blessed to be home with family today, let us also remember our brothers and sisters who are far away fighting to protect our freedom and liberties. I send this message primarily to them as well as all those who have returned from duty, especially our Wounded Warriors, and I say, “THANK YOU.”

On that note, I want to return to an authentic Christmas story which, I believe, captures the true spirit of Christmas.

This story made such an impact on me last year, it is only fitting to run it again.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, or however you celebrate, Happy Holidays!!
