Just How Great is America? (Video)
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 24th, 2012 6:22 AM |
Declaring America as the greatest country in the world may be a standard statement on the political stump but the simple fact is that declaration is highly questionable.
Some may denigrate those who would question our greatness. I thank them assuming that their hearts and spirits aspire to make the necessary sacrifice to elevate America once again to the lofty status of true greatness.
To be recognized as the greatest, I believe we need to accept the reality of our current status. I have previously questioned our greatness. I have gone so far as to call out the lies and the liars. Real greatness has a foundation upon the truth. (more…)
The Final 2012 Presidential Debate: Open Forum
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 23rd, 2012 9:19 AM |
With the final official debate of the 2012 Presidential campaign now in the rear view mirror, the candidates will now engage in an all out sprint to the finish line on November 6th.
I personally believe that the length and costs of these campaigns are hugely unproductive for our country. Why is it that Washington is so dysfunctional? Politicians from the White House to Capitol Hill seem stuck in perpetual campaign mode. Well, that is a topic for a different day.
How do readers feel about last night’s debate? Who won? Who lost? What did you learn? (more…)
Goldman Sachs: “We Don’t Trust You at All”
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 22nd, 2012 6:41 AM |
Although I am still not inclined to buy, rather than merely borrowing it from the library, Greg Smith’s book Why I Left Goldman Sachs, I did find his interview on CBS’ 60 Minutes last evening to be interesting. What interested me?
Smith did not provide any great revelations in this interview, but I found it interesting based simply on the fact that he is one of very few people who have exited the Wall Street arena and left the light on in the process. For that reason alone, I think it is worthwhile to watch this clip.
Do clients trust Goldman Sachs? Certainly not all of them. Why not? (more…)
Greg Smith and Goldman Sachs
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 19th, 2012 7:09 AM |
Greg Smith created quite a splash last spring when he announced his resignation from Goldman Sachs in an op-ed piece in The New York Times. That bit of sensationalism created quite a stir on Wall Street but what are we to expect in a day and age when an industry has provided plenty of reasons to be vilified and an insider feeds the fish.
Am I going to go out and buy Mr. Smith’s book? Based on excerpts I have read so far, I think I would be more inclined to borrow it from the library. Why so? (more…)
Obama and Romney Joke and Poke Fun at Each Other
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 19th, 2012 5:44 AM |
The Al Smith Dinner is a political tradition in America. While the dinner itself serves as a welcome break from the daily campaign and an opportunity for the candidates to poke fun at themselves and each other, it also serves a much greater cause.
The Al Smith Dinner benefits “the neediest children of the Archdiocese of New York, regardless of race, creed, or color.” That says it all.
There is no reason to have a scorecard for the respective remarks from our President and his opponent. Simply enjoy because both men provide a lot of funny material!! Please let us know what jokes you like the most. (more…)
The Second 2012 Presidential Debate: Open Forum
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 17th, 2012 7:28 AM |
What did you think of the second 2012 Presidential debate? Would certainly seem to be no real love lost between the candidates. I am not even sure they truly respect each other. How about the moderator, Candy Crowley? How did she do?
The questions covered the following topics:
1. Employment situation in general and for college graduates specifically.
2. Energy
3. Governor Romney’s tax plan specifically and the economy at large. (more…)
Whom Should Pandit Thank for “Resignation?”
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 16th, 2012 3:29 PM |
Speculation is running rampant as to whether Citigroup’s Vikram Pandit voluntarily resigned this morning or was pushed off the ledge?
It defies logic to think that Pandit and his sidekick John Havens decided that it was simply time to turn the keys to the store over to new leaders. I also do not think for a second that these “resignations” were the result of a clash with the board over Citi’s strategy and performance.
Then what prompted these seismic shifts within the executive offices of Citigroup? (more…)
The Impact of Obamacare on My Town
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 16th, 2012 9:44 AM |
Have you already started to see and feel the impact of Obamacare on your healthcare plans specifically and your family budget overall? I am drawn to this topic today based on a message put out just yesterday by the lead selectman in our town. He writes,
We view the cost of health insurance and the new federal taxes and regulations that have been imposed on us to be unsustainable. We cannot sit idly by during the next few years. We have and will continue to take affirmative actions to lower our future costs. (more…)
