Whistleblower Appreciation Day: My Top 5

Posted by Larry Doyle on July 31st, 2014 9:40 AM |

Not a day goes by in which the citizens of our nation are not forced to continue to wade through a financial-political-regulatory cesspool of real cronyism and corruption.

The stench from this menage-a-trois is overpowering. Transparency is the only real disinfectant.

Who provides that transparency? Whistleblowers.

We owe immeasurable thanks to our fellow brethren who have taken immeasurable personal and professional risks to expose real waste, fraud, and abuse emanating from that cesspool. In honor of these true patriots a resolution was passed earlier this week designating July 30, 2014 as National Whistleblower Appreciation Day.

Let’s navigate. (more…)

International Whistleblowers

Posted by Larry Doyle on July 19th, 2013 11:02 AM |

I love when my blog attracts comments from people who share riveting insights and perspectives of real world experiences that can help others who might navigate to these parts.

Not that all — or at least most — of the comments left here are not valuable but some truly stand out.

One left here just yesterday in reaction to my recent commentary, Wall Street: Culture of Silence, confirmed much of what I believe and also highlighted an organization that might be of very real service to those who have information of improprieties but do not know where to turn or what to do. Kathleen Furey v SEC: Wow, Just Wow . . . Read This

Posted by Larry Doyle on May 16th, 2013 6:26 AM |

For those with an interest in learning how our financial regulators fail to perform in upholding both the law and their duty to protect investors, the SEC is “the gift that keeps on giving.

As if we did not already know that the SEC has all too often failed to protect investors, let’s navigate and learn about the case of current SEC employee Kathleen Furey. From a recent complaint brought by Ms. Furey against the SEC:

The three-year ascent of Kathleen Furey to higher levels of official responsibility and pay came to an abrupt halt in 2008, shortly after she was forced to become a whistleblower.  (more…)

Obama’s Failure to Reform Wall Street: “The Letter”

Posted by Larry Doyle on September 27th, 2012 7:20 AM |

Yesterday’s commentary addressing the gross injustice of an SEC attorney walking away largely unscathed after having blown the cover of a whistleblower resonated far and wide. What is it about this story of the whistleblower Peter Sivere having his confidence violated that consumes me and strikes right at the core of America?

Sivere was victimized by those charged with upholding our laws, protecting our values, and promoting a system of free and fair trade. Peter Sivere’s story epitomizes the essence of the Wall Street -Washington Incest which I have railed on for the last three years.

Yet, Peter Sivere awakes again today a victim with no real justice. While he bears the brunt of the pain of being victimized, the simple fact is Sivere is every good and decent man and woman in America. As Sivere suffers, so do we all.

It does not have to be this way. How might it begin to change?  (more…)

Who’s Minding the Store at the SEC?

Posted by Larry Doyle on May 1st, 2012 6:33 AM |

The folks at the SEC could not possibly still be tuning in to porn, could they?

Do you think that any SEC lawyers are once again blowing the cover of whistleblowers?

Would we know if the SEC is complying with the Freedom of Information Act?

While many in Washington and America might think these issues begin and end at the desk of the SEC chair, Mary Schapiro, the simple fact is the real oversight of this organization falls under the purview of the SEC’s Inspector General. Really? Oh yeah!! How so? (more…)

Will Whistleblower Protections Suffer at Hands of Rep. Michael Grimm “Reaper” (R-NY)?

Posted by Larry Doyle on February 7th, 2012 11:14 AM |

Representative Michael Grimm (R-NY) was ceremoniously inducted into the Sense on Cents Hall of Shame in May 2011. Not that I ever believed there was reason to doubt his induction, but recently I witnessed further reason to cement his status in the elevated ranks of shame.

As regular readers are fully aware, I write passionately about pursuing the truth while promoting investor education and investor protection. The history of the last few years has shown that the financial services industry has not exactly shared our passion.

Who has shared the passion and took very real professional risk in the process? Numerous and sundry whistleblowers.  (more…)

President Obama, “Are You In?”

Posted by Larry Doyle on May 25th, 2011 7:57 AM |

Information is everything.

Regular readers of Sense on Cents are well aware of my having written that statement on many an occasion. Those on Wall Street who gain early access to critical information have a decided advantage. Those in Washington who gain the upper hand in controlling the flow of information are also at a decided advantage.

As these realities become ever more prevalent, Americans and people worldwide are working harder and digging deeper to attain unbridled access to information in order to determine the truth and promote transparency. With major media outlets often failing us in these pursuits, where do we turn for this information? The internet.

Against this backdrop, I am not surprised to see political powers in Washington accept and embrace the reality of the power of the information superhighway and put an ‘eye in the sky’ in order to monitor the traffic. To what do I allude?  (more…)

Now We Know Who Blocked the Whistleblower Protection Act

Posted by Larry Doyle on April 6th, 2011 7:50 AM |

Let it be known that with this commentary the Sense on Cents Hall of Shame inducts Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ), Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH). What have they done to deserve this “honor”? A recent release points the finger squarely at them for assaulting our prized virtues and never ending pursuit of truth, transparency, and integrity. Let’s navigate.

This past January 10th, I inquired Which U.S. Senator Blocked the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act? and wrote:

Let’s bang the drum once again to promote truth, transparency and integrity. In this rendition, let’s collectively work to expose the Congressional coward, that is the United States Senator, who blocked the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act. In the process, Senator “Coward” took a stand against our prized virtues while defending the monied interests of corporate elitism.

Did you just vomit thinking that our hallowed halls upon Capitol Hill are populated with such louts? Why haven’t others on Capitol Hill raised a hue and cry? Fellow cowards? You think? Getting their bread “buttered” in the process? You think? What happened to our country? (more…)

High five and major kudos once again to the Project on Government Oversight for bringing attention to this travesty. Let’s call out the cowards and demand the answer as to whom blocked this act. How so? Let’s navigate as POGO writes, (more…)
