Did We Waste The Crisis? Is the Pope Catholic?

Posted by Larry Doyle on August 13th, 2013 8:16 AM |

In late November 2008, incoming White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel told a group of corporate executives, “you never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”

Well, here we sit almost 5 years later. Is there any doubt that in terms of utilizing the crisis to implement the necessary meaningful financial regulatory and structural reforms, we have, in fact, wasted this crisis? Come on, do we even have to ask?

Adam Davidson of The New York Times would seem to believe the same as he wrote the following in a recent commentary: (more…)

Will Geithner ‘Walk the Walk?’

Posted by Larry Doyle on November 18th, 2009 9:35 AM |

Do you have any confidence that Washington even knows how to properly address our massive and growing fiscal deficit? Rahm Emanuel, Tim Geithner and others understand that from a political standpoint they need to start talking about deficit control, but will that talk lead to action?

Do you think Congressional leaders, specifically Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, have the character and fortitude to ‘tighten the belt?’

The first real test for this crowd is already upon us. How so? The TARP, with a $700 billion commitment, expires on December 31, 2009. Of that $700 billion, $400 billion has actually been spent. Why wasn’t the other $300 billion spent? Well, don’t forget that Obama’s Stimulus Bill totaled $770 billion and assorted other programs implemented by Treasury have run into the trillions. As a result, Geithner did not immediately need to allocate those funds.

The question begs as to what will happen to that $300 billion. While Emanuel and Geithner are starting to ‘talk’ the fiscal discipline ‘talk,’ will they ‘walk the walk?’ (more…)

More Legalized Bribery!!!

Posted by Larry Doyle on February 21st, 2009 6:43 PM |

Why do I believe we will see a wave of material on this topic? Well, whenever I see it I plan on updating my post Legalized Bribery so that Former Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and current CIA head Leon Panetta are continually vindicated.

Who lived rent free for 5 years in the Washington townhouse of a CT Congressman, directed hundreds of thousands of dollars to that Congressman’s husband’s lobbying effort, served on the board of Freddie Mac when it stifled Republican overtures, and now serves one door away from the Oval office?

Did Rahm Emanuel declare that rent-free arrangement as income? Did he pay taxes on it? Did he share that arrangement with the Congressional ethics committee? Rahm’s ‘Rent’ Is Just the Tip of Ethics Iceberg

Change? No, this Legalized Bribery has been going on for a while.
