The Impact of Obamacare on My Town

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 16th, 2012 9:44 AM |

Have you already started to see and feel the impact of Obamacare on your healthcare plans specifically and your family budget overall? I am drawn to this topic today based on a message put out just yesterday by the lead selectman in our town. He writes,

We view the cost of health insurance and the new federal taxes and regulations that have been imposed on us to be unsustainable.  We cannot sit idly by during the next few years.  We have and will continue to take affirmative actions to lower our future costs. Read the rest »

Be Very Careful in Your Search for Yield/Income

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 15th, 2012 8:35 AM |

Have you ever been tempted to blindly look for “treasure” without knowing what you were really doing or what risks you really faced?

This kid’s game is played all the time on Wall Street, and investors need to be very careful not to get trapped in the process. How so?

With the Federal Reserve and other global central banks implementing serious financial repression, investors everywhere are searching far and wide in pursuit of yield/income. This setting is perfect for issuers and/or sellers of financial products to hang a juicy yield out there in hopes of luring investors to bite. Read the rest »

Vote for Best Financial Blog of 2012

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 12th, 2012 7:00 AM |

Thanks to our friends at eWallstreeter for making the effort to organize and run a poll for the best financial blog of 2012.

Is there any doubt that the blogosphere has changed the manner in which news and opinion in our nation are disseminated? So many bloggers, both financial and otherwise, produce fabulous work and evoke the true American spirit in the process. I tip my hat to bloggers everywhere for engaging in debate in the public square. In fact, I would go so far as to say that given the current positioning of the mainstream media, the case for exceptional bloggers has never been greater.

I thank those who have already voiced their support and have cast their vote for my work here at Sense on Cents.  I hope others who visit my blog share that sentiment. You can rest assured my passion in pursuit of truth, transparency, and integrity while navigating the economic landscape has never been stronger. I thank you, the readers, for your own passion which fuels so much of what transpires here.

On that note, I hope you will take a minute or so to vote for the Best Financial Blog of 2012.

Lara Logan: “This Is Terrorism” and “Our Way of Life is Under Attack”

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 10th, 2012 6:05 PM |

In writing here at Sense on Cents, I try to stay true to my mission of promoting truth, transparency, and integrity while navigating the economic landscape. That said, every now and then a story or clip comes along that I believe is so powerful and compelling that it warrants my highlighting it.

Today a clip of this magnitude crossed my desk and I feel obligated to share it.  Read the rest »

Jack Welch: Washington’s Emperor Has No Clothes

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 10th, 2012 10:03 AM |

Love him or hate him, Jack Welch did America a real public service last Friday. With his tweet minutes after the release of the seemingly incredulous employment report, Welch embraced a virtue long ago appreciated but now too easily dismissed, especially by those within the media.

What virtue is this?

QUESTION AUTHORITY!!

Some may think Welch was more making a statement rather than posing a question. I would view that as a matter of semantics.  Read the rest »

The Twilight Zone vs Larry Eckhardt

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 10th, 2012 7:12 AM |

I had initially planned on writing today about a story of how the SEC is employing what could only be described as thuggery and intimidation tactics against a small credit ratings firm that has dared to pursue the truth.

The thought also crossed my mind of addressing a long overdue suit against another of Wall Street’s giants for propagating fraud within the mortgage  origination business. Are the regulators and prosecutors aware it is almost 2013 and that they are years late in pursuing justice on this front?

Why is it that when I think about both of these fiascoes and so much more, I feel that the powers that be in Washington and New York attempt to foist upon us a reality that could only be equated to The Twilight Zone. The lies, the perversions, and the daily stream of garbage that emanate from the political and financial  power bases can be overwhelming if we were actually to give it a degree of credibility. The lack of credibility ship and the losers aboard it sailed a LONG time ago. Read the rest »

Land of the Free, Home of The Brave

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 8th, 2012 4:19 PM |

Our nation has endured a lot of hits over the last weeks, months, and years. Despite these hits — and the accompanying shortcomings of many whom we might deem to be our leaders but partake in various iterations of crony capitalism — our nation remains the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Having not often taken a break from the standard delivery of this blog, I welcome doing just that right now. Why? The rendition of our national anthem highlighted below truly inspired me. I would like to pass that inspiration along. Read the rest »

What Do We Have to Show for Our Deficit?

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 8th, 2012 7:15 AM |

There is nothing inherently wrong with borrowing money. Taking out a loan to fund a business, buy a house, pay for education are all worthwhile endeavors for individuals and a nation alike. This said, there comes a point where imprudent borrowing and lending run the risk of fiscal calamity. That segment of our economic landscape is a distant  memory in our nation’s rear view mirror.

My 8th grade son is mesmerized by the Debt Clock in the left hand sidebar here at Sense on Cents adding ~$5,000/second to our national debt. He asks me how our debt could have gotten so high and so out of control. For his benefit and that of others, I welcome providing another view of our nation’s past and projected fiscal deficit.   Read the rest »

October Employment Report: What Really Happened?

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 5th, 2012 10:13 AM |

Was the unemployment report released this morning gamed by the powers that be in Washington? Former General Electric CEO Jack Welch thinks so and had this to say in a tweet released right after the report:

Well, while Welch and many others believe a conspiracy is at work, let’s take a harder look at the numbers.

“If You Want To Be President . . . The Truth”

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 5th, 2012 6:40 AM |

Reeling from a widely acknowledged trouncing in the first debate, President Obama had this to say while on the stump yesterday:

“. . .  if you want to be president you owe the American people the truth.”

Is that right? Why do visions of Susan Rice boldly lying to America regarding the recent terrorist attack in Libya dance through my mind?

I will allow others to weigh in on how much truth emanates from the White House and Capitol Hill.  Regular readers are well aware of my trumpeting for truth, transparency, and integrity from ALL of our elected officials and everybody else. The president’s call for veracity compels me to highlight one of the most widely commented reviews ever run here at Sense on Cents.
