Wealth Creation: The Key Principles

Posted by Larry Doyle on June 13th, 2013 9:44 AM |

It’s not how much you make, it’s how much you save.

————————

Many people in different businesses and within government across America do not like discussing or promoting personal savings rates but the simple fact is the path to financial security and wealth creation is navigated most effectively by embracing that key principle and a few basic tools.

These tools are not often discussed by those who would much prefer you spend, spend, spend so our economy can grow but that all too American style of living has simply led us down the ‘nonsense on cents‘ path of increased debt and often running in place if not worse than that in terms of building wealth. What are the keys for generating real wealth creation?

Sense on Cents Central Station

Posted by Larry Doyle on April 22nd, 2011 8:14 AM |

A few years back when I had just launched Sense on Cents, I would host formal weekly exchanges with readers. This forum, entitled Sense on Cents Central Station, allowed readers an opportunity to ask questions, make comments, or shout from the mountaintop (how many currently feel like saying, “I’m pissed and I’m not going to take it anymore!!” More than a few I’ll bet.). Are there specific financial or economic topics you would like me to address now? Ask away.

Given all that is going on in our world and in each and every large city and small community within our own country, I firmly believe people want a voice and to know that somebody is listening. You have it right here. What is on your mind? Speak out. Inquire. Do not be bashful. Are there questions you have as you navigate your own personal economic landscape that I might be able to address? Collectively we can help each other.

As a disclaimer, I am not a financial planner.

Sticking with the theme of this thread, “All aboard….”

What really happened in the markets on Thursday May 6th? Can regulators truly address the underlying issues that caused the ‘flash crash’ or are our equity exchanges fundamentally and structurally broken?

How can you protect yourself in the face of such unbelievable volatility? Who benefits and who loses in the face of this volatility?

Will circuit breakers proposed by regulators work? Will we witness more days like May 6th?

If you have any interest in our markets and our economy, you will not want to miss my show this Sunday evening from 8-9pm ET as No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle Welcomes Back Joe Saluzzi. >>>> (more…)

The challenges on our economic landscape remain daunting. While employment and manufacturing may be stabilizing, the housing and mortgage markets remain mired with real issues.

The issues within housing and mortgages are at the base of our economic crisis encompassing both Wall Street and Washington. From structured transactions on Wall Street to financial regulatory reforms in Washington, the issues ultimately come back to housing and mortgages. I will discuss all these issues on Sunday evening from 8-9pm ET as No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle Welcomes Bill Berliner.  Bill Berliner is uniquely qualified to address these topics. A government that operates without transparency and integrity while continually mortgaging our children’s future is a recipe for disaster.

A government that cozies up to large monied interests and looks to redistribute wealth leaves a large swath of America totally disenfranchised.

This government, as described above, occupies space on both sides of our political aisle.

Hard working Americans are voicing their discontent, if not total outrage, at our government via a movement that is sweeping our nation. While the political elite would like to dismiss this movement, and the media would like to marginalize it, the Tea Party movement is gaining traction and momentum.

Please join me this Sunday evening April 18th from 8-9pm ET as No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle Is Having a Tea Party. I will be ‘having tea’ with Matt Clemente and Brendan Steinhauser of Freedom Works, a grassroots organization that is making an enormous impact on our national political and economic landscape with the Tea Party movement:

Founded in 1984, FreedomWorks is headquartered in Washington, DC, and has hundreds of thousands of grassroots volunteers nationwide.

What We Do
FreedomWorks recruits, educates, trains and mobilizes hundreds of thousands of volunteer activists to fight for less government, lower taxes, and more freedom.

Why We Do It
FreedomWorks believes individual liberty and the freedom to compete increases consumer choices and provides individuals with the greatest control over what they own and earn.

How We Do It
FreedomWorks’ aggressive, real-time campaigns activate a growing and permanent volunteer grassroots army to show up and demand policy change.

No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle Welcomes 13 Bankers Co-Author James Kwak, Tonight at 8pm ET

I am thrilled to have James Kwak join me this evening, April 11th, from 8-9pm ET on No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle.

If Wall Street banks are ‘too big to fail,’ what is America to do? While those on Wall Street fight to maintain their power base and those in Washington deal with their conflicted interests between Wall Street and Main Street, two individuals lay out a very simple solution.

Simon Johnson and James Kwak convincingly answer that if banks are in fact ‘too big to fail,’ then ‘make them smaller.’ Johnson and Kwak highlight this reality and so much more in 13 Bankers: The Wall Street Takeover and the Next Financial Meltdown, a book that was just released but will surely sweep the country. The reviews so far are off the charts. Kwak and Johnson are widely followed at their site Baseline Scenario, which, in my opinion, is the most well written and informative financial and economic website in the blogosphere. (Sense on Cents being a close second!!)

What are people saying about 13 Bankers? Well, let’s stop and start with Elizabeth Warren, Professor of Law Harvard Law School and Chair, TARP Congressional Oversight Panel. She writes:

“The best explanation yet for how the smart guys on Wall Street led us to the brink of collapse. In the process, Johnson and Kwak demystify our financial system, stripping it down to expose the ruthless power grab that lies at its center.”

My interview with James Kwak this evening is a can’t miss. Please spread the word to friends and colleagues. Listen to the show LIVE at the BlogTalkRadio website. Share your thoughts and questions by calling (347) 677-0792, or mix it up in the chat room with an always energized group. As a reminder, all of my radio shows are archived and previous episodes can be listened to right here at Sense on Cents by clicking on the No Quarter Radio tab. If 70% of our economy is driven by the consumer, and Sense on Cents is trying to help people navigate the “economic” landscape, then prudence dictates we drill deeper into how the American consumer is doing during these challenging times.

What drives consumer behavior? How is the consumer adapting his/her personal spending habits? What triggers personal consumption? How can we source this information without being captive to the heavily massaged data provided by the government or industries with inherent bias? Well, if you are interested in learning more you have come to the right place as this Sunday evening from 8-9pm ET, No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle Welcomes Rick Davis.

Richard C. Davis is the founder and President of the Consumer Metrics Institute. The Consumer Metrics Institute grew out of Mr. Davis’ frustration with the lack of timeliness and poor quality of information available to individual investors about the consumer economy in the United States.

“It became clear to me that nearly all of the so-called ‘Leading Indicators’ available to individual investors were in fact no more timely or leading than last month’s account statements,” he says. (more…)

Feedback from my initial conversation with Steve Megremis of The Daily Bail was so overwhelming that I am compelled to have Steve back on No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle this Sunday evening from 8-9pm ET.

I guarantee we will pull no punches in promoting truth, transparency, and integrity in our discussion. Don’t miss it!! (more…)
