If the American public thought that it had borne all the excruciating pain of every insult and injury that Wall Street and Washington could deliver . . . think again.
In what has to be a new low in terms of kicking the hard working, God-fearing, taxpaying investors of this land in the proverbial balls, check this WSJ story out about the motivations of the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation in meting out large fines on Wall Street (Caution: prior to reading this, I recommend you remove any projectiles or sharp objects from your vicinity): (more…)

Are you sick of being lied to?
Seriously.
At what point do we as a nation say ENOUGH to the lies and scandalous practices within and around Washington?
I am referring to the lies — and yes, they are lies — that were put forth by the Attorney General’s office in the investigation of mortgage fraud. If you do not think Eric Holder, Lanny Breuer, and others intentionally misrepresented — er, lied — regarding the efforts of the DOJ to the American public, I beg to differ. (more…)

When people knowingly misrepresent critically important information to you and do so on a repeated basis, why would you ever trust them?
Human nature being what it is, you would not.
That is exactly the quandary the Department of Justice finds itself in currently. How so? Let’s navigate and review a recently released report from none other than the Inspector General’s Office of the Department of Justice which outlines how the DOJ repeatedly delivered grossly exaggerated information to the American public regarding mortgage fraud investigations. A little over a year ago I became aware of robo-signing within the mortgage servicing industry and broached the topic that the activity likely rose to a level of racketeering. I aggressively questioned, Did Wall Street Violate the Racketeering Act?
Believing that the activity did likely rise to a level of racketeering, I recommended that attorneys general should pursue institutions involved in these fraudulent and abusive practices with a RICO action.
Well, it appears that somebody is now doing just that with specific focus on activities that transpired at Bank of America and MERS (Mortgage Electronic Registration System). (more…)

The penalties handed out by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to the coaches and executives of the New Orleans Saints organization for the bounty program practiced down on the bayou were perhaps the stiffest in the history of the game.
Goodell has shown himself to be a no-nonsense individual cut from the mold of Kenesaw Mountain Landis. Goodell is clearly focused on protecting the sport, and knows that any program which promotes an intent to injure renders modern day football to little more than barbarism. (more…)

Should we take heart that the Obama administration is creating a multi-agency Financial Fraud Task Force? While there is no doubt there are massive frauds in the system, the mere creation of a task force does not necessarily mean the frauds will be rooted out. Why? If the agencies involved in the task force are themselves fundamentally and structurally flawed, then frauds will continue. If the agencies merely failed to execute or perform then perhaps this task force will expose those deficiencies and lessen fraudulent activities.
Which agencies will be involved in this task force? The Securities Industry News reports, U.S. Launches Multi-Agency Task Force to Prosecute Financial Fraud:
The task force will be led by the Department of Justice and chaired by Attorney General Eric Holder Jr., but will also include senior officials from the Department of Treasury, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Federal Reserve System and other major federal agencies.
Thus, this task force would seem to consist of all government agencies while being led by AG Eric Holder and the Department of Justice. What does Mr. holder have to say? (more…)
