The Effect of the Obamacare Tax
Posted by Larry Doyle on February 5th, 2014 12:46 PM |
The release of the Congressional Budget Office report yesterday on the effects of Obamacare has not surprisingly set off a firestorm in respective political camps and among their media friends.
Let’s dispense with the heavy clanging noise connected to this topic that is resonating throughout our land and take a more measured approach in assessing the impact of the tax connected to Obamacare.
First and foremost, although many do not like associating the term “tax” in discussing Obamacare, let’s not forget that none other than Chief Justice Roberts told us that is exactly what it is in handing down his ruling upholding Obamacare.
Without being overly simplistic, whenever taxes are imposed behaviors change. To think otherwise is naive. (more…)
Obamacare: “Going To Blow a Hole In The Budget”

WALLACE: I’m not saying it’s a scandal. I’m just, what it seems to be is rank incompetence.
WOODWARD: Yeah, there’s no question about that . . .
That rank incompetence is being felt each and everyday by millions across our nation as people learn they are not only losing their healthcare plans, but their doctors as well.
Can you imagine your elderly grandmother losing access to her doctor with whom she has had a longstanding relationship? It is happening folks. Which party is throwing Grandma over the cliff? Evidence of just such a development is detailed in a weekend article from the WSJ: (more…)
Obama Presidency, 01.21.09 — 11.15.13: R.I.P

“Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”
Sir Walter Scott, in Canto VI Stanza 17 of “Marmion” (1808)
I do not think I can count the number of times that I have actually written the specific words, “truth, transparency, and integrity” at my blog over the last 5 years. When I write those words and the importance of putting them into practice, I actually mean them.
Regrettably, far too much that emanates from Washington on both sides of the aisle bears little resemblance with those virtues. Collectively we suffer tremendously as a result.
Before commenting on our President’s attempted Hail Mary, administration-saving pass delivered yesterday, I would like to pose a question to those who might read this post. Have you ever worked with or for an individual for whom telling the truth is secondary to advancing his/her own personal agenda? I have. (more…)
Obama’s Rubicon: You Can’t Lie to American Public
Posted by Larry Doyle on November 5th, 2013 11:55 AM |
One does not need to grow up in an urban setting and receive a large serving of ‘street smarts’ to understand that phrases such as “intentionally misspoke” or “willfully deceived” mean one thing.
The scarlet letter attached to these more genteel descriptions is the “Big Red L.”
Say what you want about our current President, but the simple fact is after his scrambling of the last few days, he has crossed the Rubicon and broken the sacred bond that is supposed to come with his occupying the highest office in the land and the most powerful position in the world.
Mr. President, you should know that you cannot lie to the American public. (more…)
Obamacare Trojan Horse: Is White House Muzzling Insurance Companies?

Classics scholars are familiar with Virgil’s legendary warning, “Timeo Danaos et dona ferentes,” i.e. “Beware of Greeks bearing gifts.”
Just as the Greeks on the mainland would have been well served to be leery of what the Trojans were hiding in their “gift,” the American public may also want to be very careful as to what lies deeply within the administration’s newly released horse, aka Obamacare.
If transparency is indeed the great disinfectant, then there is seemingly a lot that might smell in the Obamacare stable. Put on the heavy boots and let’s navigate. (more…)
Denninger on Obamacare and Health System: Organized Racketeering
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 25th, 2013 10:33 AM |
With all too many people and organizations in our nation parroting the talking heads from one side of the political aisle or the other, who is willing to take the sledge hammer and break the healthcare vice grip under which we all suffer?
If you do not read the work of The Market Ticker’s Karl Denninger then you do yourself a real disservice. I believe Denninger is the smartest and hardest hitting individual in the blogosphere today. In regard to Obamacare and our overall health system, he pulls no punches in exposing the scam for what it really is, a racket.
His commentary, How Badly Will ObamaCare Screw you? Answers Here, is a little lengthy but worth every second. (more…)
Obamacare ‘Shop and Browse’: Incredibly Misleading
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 23rd, 2013 9:51 AM |
If it were not Uncle Sam but a private entity that put forth “incredibly misleading” pricing quotes for health insurance, do you think The Better Business Bureau might pay them a visit and hit them with a fine if not far worse than that? No doubt.
Prevailing market forces typically enact incredibly punishing force on entities engaged in such practices so as to often put them out of business. But having dispensed with the basic tenets of prevailing market forces within this realm, the American public is forced to bend over once again under the weight of Uncle Sam’s heavy hand.
I recommend you put your coffee down and clear your desk of sharp objects prior to viewing this brief clip recently released by CBS News: (more…)
Our Government Remains a Joke!!
Posted by Larry Doyle on October 15th, 2013 8:49 AM |
If our supposed leaders holding public office in Washington were not so pathetic, they may actually be comical.
But there is little to laugh about when we learn just how much the dysfunction in Washington costs our economy. The Financial Times highlights this morning:
Economists are scrambling to assess the damage inflicted on the US recovery by the government shutdown and its second close brush with default in as many years.
But the bigger picture is that the political paralysis surrounding US fiscal policy, with recurring feuds and brinkmanship on Capitol Hill, has already taken a massive toll on the country in the past three years.
In a report released on Monday, Macroeconomic Advisers, the research group, found that America’s budget fights have cost more than 2m jobs and slowed annualised economic growth by 1 percentage point of gross domestic product since 2010. (more…)
