How are some people able to see the forest for the trees? Why do certain  individuals look left when everybody else is going right? What drives people to embrace risk?

We can learn so much from studying the career paths, thoughts, and views of those who have achieved remarkable accomplishments. That said, where can we go and what can we study that addresses the common characteristics and highlights the common denominators of these individuals?

You have come to the right place as this Sunday evening (8-9pm ET) No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle Welcomes Rick Smith.

Who is Rick Smith?

There is no doubt we are navigating a challenging, if not treacherous, economic landscape. As with any challenging trip, prudence dictates we utilize all resources at our disposal. That said, there is no resource more valuable than that of experience. Whether involved in the markets or other business pursuits, the ability to gain the wisdom of those who have gone before us is priceless.

In this spirit, I am a huge proponent of the merits and benefits of mentoring. What greater gift can one give than the sage advice garnered from one’s experience. There is no greater gift for a businessperson than to point the way forward for future generations.

As we continue to navigate our current economic landscape and the peaks and valleys along the way, I am honored to have Bill Venezia join me this Sunday evening (8-9pm ET) on No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle.

Who is Bill Venezia? One of Wall Street’s giants, Bill was without a doubt the top bond salesman on the street. As good a salesman as Bill was, and he was the best, he is a better human being.  Let’s learn more about Mr. Venezia:

Who would have projected the twists and turns we have experienced on our global economic landscape? Who would have forecasted the ups and downs in the markets? Who has the global perspective to project where our economies and markets are headed? While the future is always uncertain, experience is always the best teacher. Where can one turn to gain riveting insights and perspectives from some of the sharpest minds in the market today?

Welcome to No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle as I welcome Keith Fitz-Gerald to my show this Sunday evening November 8th at 8pm. So, who is Keith Fitz-Gerald? From Keith’s own website, we learn:

When Keith speaks, savvy investors listen. He is one of the few to correctly call the dot.bomb collapse in 2000, the cyclical recovery in 2003 and the credit crisis in 2007 – a full year in advance. He’s got one of the best documented (and most accurate) predictive records in the business. (more…)

Who truly protects the average American investor? Our financial regulators are licking their wounds and playing catch up from seemingly 20-plus years of being asleep at the wheel. Banks and brokers are fighting tooth and nail against instituting a fiduciary code of conduct. Why do more and more investors not trust Wall Street? Where should one turn to navigate this corner of our economic landscape?

Welcome to No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle as I welcome Helen Davis Chaitman this Sunday evening at 8pm EST.  Helen Davis Chaitman is a prominent attorney and partner in the New York based law firm Phillips Nizer LLP. Her career spans a vast part of our economic landscape.

Helen Davis Chaitman is a nationally recognized litigator with a diverse trial practice in the areas of lender liability, bankruptcy, bank fraud, RICO, professional malpractice, trusts and estates, and white collar defense.  In 1995, Ms. Chaitman was named one of the nation’s top ten litigators by the National Law Journal for a jury verdict she obtained in an accountants’ malpractice case.  Ms. Chaitman is the author of The Law of Lender Liability (Warren, Gorham & Lamont 1990) which is periodically updated and, since 1987, has authored the monthly newsletter, The Lender Liability Law Report.  In early 2009, Ms. Chaitman spearheaded the firm’s pro bono representation of investors in Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities LLC.  She has been an outspoken advocate for  the victims of Madoff’s Ponzi scheme and for the government failures which caused massive losses to innocent investors. Please join me this Sunday evening, October 11th, from 8-9pm for my weekly radio program Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle on No Quarter Radio. This show is an extension of my regular work at Sense on Cents where I attempt to provide insightful analysis and perspectives on the markets, economy, Wall Street, Washington, and global finance all in hopes of helping you more effectively ‘navigate the economic landscape.’

This week we will go “Inside the Black Box” with Rishi Narang, author of this insightful book which provides ‘the simple truth about quantitative trading.’ In addition to having recently released this fabulous  book, Rishi is the founding principal of Telesis Capital LLC, which invests in quantitative trading strategies. From 2002 to 2005, Rishi was a managing director and co-portfolio manager at Santa Barbara Alpha Strategies. Rishi was president and vice-chairman of Tradeworx, Inc., a quantitative hedge fund manager from 1999-2002. He has been involved in the hedge fund industry with a focus on quantitative trading strategies since 1996. He graduated from the University of California at Berkeley with a BA in economics.

We will not only bring you ‘inside the black box’ but we will make sure you get out of the box, as well. In going in and out of the black box, we will address how and why this business has grown by leaps and bounds on Wall Street. What are the secrets of successful quant trading? What are the pitfalls? What caused some of the disasters in quant trading? How have quants factored into the recent credit crisis? What is the future of this business?

Your host, as a former trader although certainly not a quant, looks forward to having a riveting discussion with Rishi Narang who has provided real transparency into this generally perceived dark corner of the market. Please join me this Sunday evening from 8-9pm EDT as we take this episode of No Quarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle “Inside the Black Box.”

As a reminder, all of my Sunday evening shows are taped and archived here at Sense on Cents, along with podcasts on iTunes.

Thanks for your support.

Please join me this Sunday evening for NQR’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle as we dig deeper and work harder in navigating the economic landscape. My special guest will be Genevievette Walker-Lightfoot.

Ms. Walker-Lightfoot was previously employed as an attorney in the Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. for almost five years, where she worked on policy matters and conducted field examinations and inspections of transfer agents, brokerage firms, hedge funds, trading exchanges, ATSs, SROs, credit rating agencies, mutual fund companies and investment advisers.

Genevievette was the lead attorney on the 2003-2004 Madoff examination conducted by OCIE and identified the substantial elements of his fraud in 2004, as detailed in a July 2, 2009, Washington Post article.  However, despite her attempts to pursue her findings, her supervisors directed her efforts elsewhere, missing an opportunity to have caught Madoff’s Ponzi scheme four years prior to him turning himself in to authorities.

Ms. Walker-Lightfoot received the SEC’s Chairman’s Award for Excellence for her work on the Mutual Fund Reform Team, as well as the SEC’s Capital Markets Award for her work on the Research Analyst/Investment Banking Conflicts of Interest Team.  Prior to the SEC, Genevievette was employed with the American Stock Exchange’s Member Firm Regulation Division in New York and the Dispute Resolution Department of the NASDR, now known as FINRA, in Washington, D.C. There is no doubt in my mind that we are in the early stages of significant structural changes throughout our economy and our country. How will our nation adapt to these structural changes? How long will it take for various sectors of our economy to fully appreciate this reality? The landscape on Wall Street has dramatically changed. While many financial executives would tell us it is “business as usual” and are fighting tooth and nail to pick up the pieces and return to that reality, the world of Wall Street is forever changed.

Please join me Sunday evening from 8-9 p.m. ET for NoQuarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle. I am honored to have Shawn Matthews, the CEO of Cantor, Fitzgerald and Co. to discuss the past, the present, and the future for Wall Street. Cantor, Fitzgerald has a storied history on Wall Street and this firm is aggressively redefining the Wall Street landscape. Bloomberg recently wrote Cantor Plans to Hire Up to 100 for European Fixed-Income Unit:

Cantor Fitzgerald plans to hire as many as 100 staff in fixed income in Europe in the coming year as it builds high-yield and distressed-debt businesses, said Chief Executive Officer Shawn Matthews.

The closely held New York-based securities firm will approach the business “from a trading perspective,” Matthews said in an interview today. As a “longer-term goal,” Cantor plans to build a “small merchant-banking operation,” he said.

Cantor, which is organized as a partnership, is seeking to take advantage of the “disarray” that has struck larger rivals such as Morgan Stanley, Citigroup Inc.  and UBS AG amid losses and writedowns by lenders worldwide of almost $1.5 trillion, Matthews said.

What does Shaun Matthews see on the global financial landscape and why is Cantor moving so aggressively to increase its footprint?

“Our clients say they are looking for more-relevant counterparties now that the big investment banks have reduced the level of capital and their commitment to trading,” Matthews said.

Cantor, which expects to hire at least 50 people in Europe the next 12 months, is also seeking to add 25 to 30 staff in Asia, he said. The company also plans to build structured-debt, investment-grade and rates businesses outside the U.S., Matthews said.

The default rate may go as high as 25 percent “by the time the crisis is over,” Matthews said. “The world is in a bad place.”

As we move along into the Brave New World of the Uncle Sam Economy, please join me Sunday evening for what promises to be a riveting discussion with Shawn Matthews.  Please share your questions and thoughts by calling in to (347) 677-0792, and also join our live chat room, which I’ll start up about 10 minutes before the show begins. Many thanks to Larry Johnson and the rest of the team at NoQuarterUSA blog for providing such a vibrant vehicle as NoQuarter Radio. I look forward to having you join me Sunday evening as we collectively navigate the economic landscape!!

Please join me this Sunday evening June 14th from 8-9 p.m. ET for NoQuarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle.  The markets gyrated this week but ultimately ended up close to unchanged across the board. That said, our economic landscape continues to provide numerous twists and turns. Let’s navigate.

The wizards in Washington are working feverishly on an overhaul of the regulatory framework of the financial industry. Or are they? Will real changes be implemented or is it mere pandering? Sense on Cents is thrilled to host the preeminent veteran Wall Street regulatory lawyer and market reform advocate Bill Singer this Sunday evening.

Bill’s career is nothing short of extraordinary. He is engaged far and wide for his legal expertise and advocacy on a wide array of regulatory issues. At this point in our financial and economic turmoil, nobody is better positioned to address the intersection of Wall Street and Washington than Bill Singer.

More specifically, Bill operates within the following realms:

  • shareholder in the Securities Practice Group of the law firm Stark & Stark

  • Publisher of http://brokeandbroker.com

  • Publisher of http://RRBDLaw.com

  • Columnist and Member of Forbes.com’s Intelligent Investing Panel

Bill and I will engage in a no-holds-barred conversation about the recent meltdown of our financial system:

  • What role did inept regulation and incompetent regulators play in allowing the tragedy to unfold and proceed?

  • Should the present regulatory system be salvaged, or demolished and replaced with a new scheme?

  • A major part of the regulation of Wall Street is done by a so-called self-regulator whose rules and Board members are voted on only by its member firms — is this still a good idea?

  • Why don’t powerful industry interests want the job of stockbroker to be “professionalized” along the lines of medical doctors, lawyers, and CPAs?

These are truly historic times in the global economy. Let’s “navigate the economic landscape” without the pandering or nonsense found elsewhere!

With Bill Singer on this Sunday evening, you can rest assured we will leave no stone unturned in navigating all the angles on this part of our economic landscape.

Please spread the word amongst friends and colleagues not to miss the show this Sunday evening on NQR’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle.

Please join me Sunday evening from 8-9 p.m. ET for NoQuarter Radio’s Sense on Cents with Larry Doyle. The developments in the markets, economy, global finance, Wall Street, and Washington are occurring at breakneck speed. I will try to slow things down a bit and provide a sense of perspective. What did we learn in the markets over the last week and what does that mean for the weeks and months ahead? We will address a wide range of issues, including economic statistics released this week, the automotive situation, market performance, and the road ahead. Additionally, I am always happy to address anything on your mind as you navigate your own economic landscape.

I will be joined by a special guest this week, as well. Mike Offit is uniquely positioned to offer piercing insights on the current state of Wall Street, the markets, and the economy. Mike held senior positions at First Boston and Goldman Sachs prior to launching the commercial mortgage and asset-backed securities business unit at Deutsche Bank. He currently consults and writes extensively on a wide range of issues for a number of periodicals including a lifestyles column for Departures, the AMEX Platinum/Black card magazine. Mike has unabashedly always “tilted against windmills.” I look forward to my conversation with him this Sunday evening.

These are truly historic times in the global economy. Let’s “navigate the economic landscape” without the pandering or nonsense found elsewhere! What is on your mind? What would you like to address?
