Obama and Romnesia: Stories Mitt “Forgot” To Share

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 19th, 2012 3:17 PM |

How often is it said that one can measure the character of a man when nobody is around to watch or take notes.

With the term “Romnesia” seemingly now being utilized to define the Republican nominee, I thought some may find it interesting to read about some stories that the Republican nominee has seemingly “forgotten” to share with the American public.

I will allow readers to make their own assessment as to the character of this individual.  (more…)

Greg Smith and Goldman Sachs

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 19th, 2012 7:09 AM |

Greg Smith created quite a splash last spring when he announced his resignation from Goldman Sachs in an op-ed piece in The New York Times. That bit of sensationalism created quite a stir on Wall Street but what are we to expect in a day and age when an industry has provided plenty of reasons to be vilified and an insider feeds the fish.

Am I going to go out and buy Mr. Smith’s book? Based on excerpts I have read so far, I think I would be more inclined to borrow it from the library. Why so?  (more…)

Obama and Romney Joke and Poke Fun at Each Other

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 19th, 2012 5:44 AM |

The Al Smith Dinner is a political tradition in America. While the dinner itself serves as a welcome break from the daily campaign and an opportunity for the candidates to poke fun at themselves and each other, it also serves a much greater cause.

The Al Smith Dinner benefits “the neediest children of the Archdiocese of New York, regardless of race, creed, or color.” That says it all.

There is no reason to have a scorecard for the respective remarks from our President and his opponent. Simply enjoy because both men provide a lot of funny material!! Please let us know what jokes you like the most.  (more…)

Bob Rodriguez: “2013, Most Critical Year in Last 80”

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 18th, 2012 8:32 AM |

When First Pacific Advisors’ Bob Rodriguez talks, I listen.

Rodriguez is a perennial all-star when it comes to investing, analyzing the markets, studying the economy, and taking the pulse of the Federal Reserve.  Unmoved by the daily waves in the market, Rodriguez maintains the courage of his convictions in studying the macro-level shifts in our economic “tectonic plates.”

In point of fact, Rodriguez is truly playing on a different field than virtually every other  money manager. Why does he think 2013 will be the most critical year for investors in the last 80? Take the 6 minutes to watch, listen, and learn from a recent CNBC interview with the best of the best, Bob Rodriguez. (more…)

The Second 2012 Presidential Debate: Open Forum

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 17th, 2012 7:28 AM |

What did you think of the second 2012 Presidential debate? Would certainly seem to be no real love lost between the candidates. I am not even sure they truly respect each other. How about the moderator, Candy Crowley? How did she do?

The questions covered the following topics:

1. Employment situation in general and for college graduates specifically.

2. Energy

3. Governor Romney’s tax plan specifically and the economy at large.  (more…)

Whom Should Pandit Thank for “Resignation?”

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 16th, 2012 3:29 PM |

Speculation is running rampant as to whether Citigroup’s Vikram Pandit voluntarily resigned this morning or was pushed off the ledge?

It defies logic to think that Pandit and his sidekick John Havens decided that it was simply time to turn the keys to the store over to new leaders. I also do not think for a second that these “resignations” were the result of a clash with the board over Citi’s strategy and performance.

Then what prompted these seismic shifts within the executive offices of Citigroup?  (more…)

The Impact of Obamacare on My Town

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 16th, 2012 9:44 AM |

Have you already started to see and feel the impact of Obamacare on your healthcare plans specifically and your family budget overall? I am drawn to this topic today based on a message put out just yesterday by the lead selectman in our town. He writes,

We view the cost of health insurance and the new federal taxes and regulations that have been imposed on us to be unsustainable.  We cannot sit idly by during the next few years.  We have and will continue to take affirmative actions to lower our future costs. (more…)

Be Very Careful in Your Search for Yield/Income

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 15th, 2012 8:35 AM |

Have you ever been tempted to blindly look for “treasure” without knowing what you were really doing or what risks you really faced?

This kid’s game is played all the time on Wall Street, and investors need to be very careful not to get trapped in the process. How so?

With the Federal Reserve and other global central banks implementing serious financial repression, investors everywhere are searching far and wide in pursuit of yield/income. This setting is perfect for issuers and/or sellers of financial products to hang a juicy yield out there in hopes of luring investors to bite. (more…)

Vote for Best Financial Blog of 2012

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 12th, 2012 7:00 AM |

Thanks to our friends at eWallstreeter for making the effort to organize and run a poll for the best financial blog of 2012.

Is there any doubt that the blogosphere has changed the manner in which news and opinion in our nation are disseminated? So many bloggers, both financial and otherwise, produce fabulous work and evoke the true American spirit in the process. I tip my hat to bloggers everywhere for engaging in debate in the public square. In fact, I would go so far as to say that given the current positioning of the mainstream media, the case for exceptional bloggers has never been greater.

I thank those who have already voiced their support and have cast their vote for my work here at Sense on Cents.  I hope others who visit my blog share that sentiment. You can rest assured my passion in pursuit of truth, transparency, and integrity while navigating the economic landscape has never been stronger. I thank you, the readers, for your own passion which fuels so much of what transpires here.

On that note, I hope you will take a minute or so to vote for the Best Financial Blog of 2012.

Lara Logan: “This Is Terrorism” and “Our Way of Life is Under Attack”

Posted by Larry Doyle on October 10th, 2012 6:05 PM |

In writing here at Sense on Cents, I try to stay true to my mission of promoting truth, transparency, and integrity while navigating the economic landscape. That said, every now and then a story or clip comes along that I believe is so powerful and compelling that it warrants my highlighting it.

Today a clip of this magnitude crossed my desk and I feel obligated to share it.  (more…)
