Sense on Cents “Central Station”

Posted by Larry Doyle on March 13, 2009 6:30 PM |

central-station-promo-3-boldI am pleased to relaunch our weekly departure from “Central Station” on Saturday mornings.  This endeavor here at Sense on Cents is a few hours of written Q/A with your resident host.  I like to utilize the theme of a ride on the rails, so please allow me to expound.

With so many cross currents at play in the markets, economy, and world of global finance, where can one go to develop a framework of understanding, enjoy the company of friends, and make sense of the madness? Welcome to Sense on Cents “Central Station.” Our ride departs Saturday morning at 9 a.m. with an expected return at 12 noon.  While we traverse the curves along our track, we can address a wide range of issues, including: Obama’s economic plans, Secretary Geithner’s outlook, the market performance this week, month, and year to date, developments overseas, the outlook for our financial regulatory structure, issues of personal finance, or anything else on your mind.

Our ride is most productive with as many people participating as possible. Please bring not only your questions, but also your views. Invite friends, neighbors, and colleagues along for the ride as well.

Your conductor is not a professional financial planner. I recommend that you consult with a licensed, qualified professional before making any investment decisions. I am merely a Wall Street veteran looking to help you navigate the economic landscape!!

Come on back tomorrow morning at 9, submit your questions in the comments section, and away we go.. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall Aboard!!

Hope some of that 1.2 billion for Amtrak reaches
your rails. See ya then. 🙂

    • Larry Doyle

      Wouldn’t that be nice!!

An interview with Bush on Fox this weekend…they showed a clip. He used the words “the coming depression” and “he was not going to allow that to happen on his watch”.

It is of concern that Bush was told this, but BO is out there “talking”… BO saying he inherited a “national catastrophe.

I am sure glad your the one punching my ticket for this train.

Why is it that politics has such few decent and qualified candidates? The untold costs of selling one’s soul and integrity are so high that it drives plenty of people away.

Look forward to riding with you.

      Thanks for the support!!

Seems to me few who run for public office have that “small still voice”, or if they have they have mastered very well how to ignore it.
Sorry, I wont be around in the morning,we are going hiking in the Santa Rosa’s here in Ca., to watch the sun come up.

  • Larry Doyle

    Sounds beautiful. Enjoy!!

  • As we “board”, perhaps I could propose a few topics for discussion:

    1. The rebound in the stock market. Is it sustainable?
    2. What do we think about Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao sending a shot across our bow over the safety of their investments here in the U.S.?
    3. Have you heard about the details in the TALF (Term Asset-Backed Lending Facility) that may seriously derail that effort.
    4. What are the Europeans thinking? Will they provide stimulus or merely talk things up?
    5. Let’s not forget the Bernie Madoff fiasco. One night in the can and Bernie wants to be released until sentencing. Talk about “no shame!!”
    6. What do we think about Obama and team? Are expectations too high or deliveries too low or both?
    7. How about developments in your local cities and towns? can you share some insights? Hints about property tax increases?
    8. Whatever is on your mind…

    Aaaaaaaaaaall Aboard!!

Hi Larry, about the Obama team,I found it strange that he took such a hard line with the Governers on stimulis money with the threats that if not used properly there would be no more money. He should take that same line with any bailout money.I also think he is finding out that the Washington insiders that got him elected are teaching him a new game and he is finding out he is missing half the rules.

  • Donnie,

Make no mistake that there are LOTS of politics being played in the midst of so much money being involved. Obama does not like being upstaged.

What galls me is that we are already hearing rumblings about the need for a second stimulus package. If that is not the greatest indictment of how poorly the initial stimulus was drafted I do not know what is.

Back to the states. California, the 9th largest economy in the world all by itself, passed a budget a month ago to fill approximately a $40 billion deficit. Well, one month after that, various estimates have them another $8-13 billion in the hole. None of these states will generate sufficient tax revenues to meet their needs. Who will they call? Uncle Sam!!

Obama and team are being led around by the hard left wing of the Democratic Party. Americans get that and are voicing their displeasure.

It’s only going to get more interesting from here.
